Virginia Tech’s Charlie Hanson has played the Eastern Amateur the past two years, finishing inside the top 10 both times. He used his past success to post bogey free 9-under 61 today to lead by 4. Hanson’s round was highlighted by birdie putts outside of 30 feet on the 6th, 9th and 14th holes. He capped off the round with a nice chip from the rough short and left of the par 5 18th to 3 feet and converted the putt for his 9th birdie of the round. Radford’s Bryce Corbett, East Carolina’s Ethan Hall and Nicholls St. golfer Ryan O’Neill are 4 shots back at 5-under. Patrick Gareiss from Chesapeake and Radford University is another shot back at 4-under.
